The object of Roulette is to bet on whether the ball will land on a specific number or color or within a particular set of numbers on the Roulette wheel. Bets are placed at the beginning of the round before the dealer drops the ball onto the wheel to determine what number it will land on.

Roulette wheels come in two common types: the European style, which consists of 37 spaces with a zero and numbers from one to 36, and the American style, which consists of 38 spaces with a zero, a double zero, and numbers. From one to 36.

Roulette Betting

Full / Simple

Divided

This wager is that the ball will rest on one of the two adjacent numbers on the table, vertically or horizontally. This bet is represented by placing chips on the edge shared by the table numbers and typically has a payout of 17:1.

Street

This is a bet that the ball will land on one of three consecutive numbers on a horizontal line on the table (for example, four, five, and six). This bet is represented by placing chips on the outside edge of the number at either end of the line and generally has a payout of 11:1.

Box / Corner

This is a bet that the ball will land on one of the four numbers that form a 2×2 “square” on the table (for example, seven, eight, ten, and 11). This bet is represented by placing chips in the familiar corner shared by the four numbers on the table (the center of the “square”) and usually has a payout of 8:1.

Seisena / Double Street

This wager is that the ball will land on any of the six consecutive numbers (16, 17, 18, 19, 20, and 21) that form two horizontal lines on the table. This bet is represented by placing chips on the outer corner shared by the table’s leftmost or rightmost two numbers and usually has a payout of 5:1.

Trio

This is a bet that the ball will land on one of three ” touched ” numbers on the table, including zero. On a European-style wheel, this bet can be placed on zero, one, and two, or zero; on an American-style wheel, it can be placed on zero, one, and two, or double zero, two, and three. This bet is represented by placing chips on the edge shared by the three numbers chosen on the table and generally has a payout of 11:1.

Four

This bet is exclusive to European-style wheels that the ball will land on one of the first four numbers (zero, one, two, and three). This bet is represented by placing chips in the corner shared by zero and one or zero and three and generally has a payout of 8:1.

The road

This bet is exclusive to American-style wheels; the ball will land on one of the first five numbers (zero, double zero, one, two, and three). This bet is represented by placing chips in the corner shared by zero and one or double zero and three and generally has a payout of 6:1.…

High or low

A Low bet (also known as Manque ) is a bet that the ball will land on a number from one to 18, while a High bet (also known as Passe ) is a bet that will land on a number from 19 to 36. These bets are represented by placing chips on the table section marked “1 to 18” or “19 to 36” and typically have a payout of 1:1.

Red or Black

This is a bet that the ball will land on several of the specified colors. On European and American-style Roulette wheels, the numbers correspond to the colors as follows:

Red: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 18, 19, 21–23, 25, 27, 30, 32–34, and 36

African American: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 29, 31, 33, 35

Please note that zero and double zero are not included in this bet as they are colored green. These bets are represented by placing chips on the corresponding part of the table (these can be labeled “Red” and “Black” or be red and black blocks). This usually has a payout of 1:1.

According to this wager, the ball will land on an odd or even number. Zero and double zero are not included in this bet. These bets are represented by chips placed on the part of the table labeled “Even” and “Odd” and typically have a payout of 1:1.

In some casinos that use European-style wheels, a player is returned half the amount he bet if the ball lands on zero on bets on High or Low, Red or Black, and Even or Odd.

Dozen

This is a bet that the ball will land within the first dozen numbers (one through 12, also known as Première Duzaine ), the second dozen numbers (13 through 24, also known as Moyenne Douzaine ), or the third dozen numbers (25 to 36, also known as Dernière Douzaine ). Zero and double zero are not included in this bet.

These bets are represented by chips placed on the part of the table labeled “1 to 12”, “13 to 24”, or “25 to 36” and typically have a payout of 2:1.

Column

This is a bet that the ball will land within a specific vertical column of 12 numbers on the table, such as one, four, seven, ten, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, and 34. This bet is represented by placing chips below the final number in the column and usually has a payout of 2:1.

Snake

This is a bet that the ball will land on one, five, nine, 12, 14, 16, 19, 23, 27, 30, 32 or 34. This bet is represented by placing chips in the lower left corner of the 34 square, and usually, It has a payout of 2:1.

Roulette Odds and House Edge

Calculating the probability of winning a bet on Roulette is relatively simple. Take the number of numbers the ball can land on for your bet to win and divide it by the number of numbers on the wheel.

For example, the probability of the ball landing on a specific number is approximately 2.70% (1 in 37) on a European-style wheel and 2.63% (1 in 38) on an American-style wheel.
